WHERE ARE THEY NOW: MAEVE MCGUIRE PART #3

Part #1, here.

Part #2, here.

PGP: In 1992, you appeared on As The World Turns as a temporary fill-in for Eileen Fulton as Lisa. When you are doing a brief appearance like that, do you try to copy what the role’s originator did or do you start fresh?

MM: When I auditioned to temporarily replace Eileen Fulton ATWT, I knew that one could never ‘copy’ this wonderful actress. She always seemed so spontaneous, relaxed and so amazingly original. So with that in mind, I simply went with where the scripts took me. There was something incredibly freeing about that. The scripts were very good. So well-written and the objective so clear that I simply stopped worrying about ‘acting’ and let the character come to life of its own accord. It was such a pleasure. And I also had incredible support from all the terrific actors I worked with.

PGP: Do you keep in touch with any of your former soap-opera co-stars?

MM: Yes, especially those from Edge, many of whom I consider family. Ann Flood (Nancy), Forest Compton (Mike), Don May (Adam), Alice Hirson (Stephanie), Terry Davis (April), John La Gioia (Johnny, Tony Craig (Draper), Lucy Martin (Tiffany), and Jennifer Bassey (Abby). These are treasured friendships and I actors I respect enormously.

PGP: How would you answer the question: Where is Maeve McGuire now?

MM: My last job on daytime television was in 1997. I played Judith Sheffield on ABC’s All My Children. It was yet again a very different role than any other that I’d played before: a devoted but incredibly stubborn and misguided Mom. The writing and the storyline was so good and I had a wonderful time doing it. Since then I have done quite a bit of regional theater and off-Broadway. I’ve worked on three feature films, on two series pilots, and have done episodes of Law & Order and Law & Order: SVU. I was married in December of 1997. My husband was the production designer on Law & Order. We’ve done a lot of exciting traveling (Egypt, Jordan, Paragonia, Cuba, China, Russia and our beautiful Southwest.). We have a cottage in Maine where I struggle yearly with a garden that has a mind of its own. I have never been asked to consider doing another daytime show but I fully intend to continue working in theater and television for many years to come!
